Delta-9 Hot Chocolate: Going Bonkers Willy Wonka Style

Delta-9 Hot Chocolate: Going Bonkers Willy Wonka Style
What is more comforting than a warm cup of hot chocolate? Answer: nothing! Whether you are buoyantly celebrating with your loved ones at the annual party or stealing a quiet moment or two for yourself during the cold winter months, very few things beat indulging in the season’s magic with a cup of Delta-9 Hot Chocolate.

You probably noticed that we wrote “Delta-9” in front of hot chocolate, which means your favorite drink just got better. Willy Wonka succeeded because he could think outside the box. That is precisely what we did as well. We decided to make your special moments even more special by sprinkling a bit of hemp-derived magic into your hot chocolate.

Why THC-Infused Hot Chocolate?

Why THC-Infused Hot Chocolate?

From traditional ceremonial practices to ancient herbal remedies, infusing cannabinoids in beverages has been done for thousands of years. Woe betided those who tried to suppress the cannabis revolution, and the good God blessed those who did everything within their power to turn the dream of the 2018 Farm Bill into reality.

What was once a staple is now a staple again. Today, we can re-indulge in the tradition of THC infusions in the form of THC hot chocolate. THC is just the abbreviated term for tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the main “active ingredient” in hemp and cannabis plants. It is also the primary compound responsible for the characteristic “high” we associate with the herb. But you probably knew this!

As the temperature drops, enjoying a cozy cup of THC-infused hot chocolate becomes the most relaxing way of indulging in the psychoactive effects of cannabis. Who would want to venture outdoors to smoke or vape THC anyway?

The psychoactive effects of infused hot chocolate depend on several factors, including THC content, the consumer’s endocannabinoid system, the amount of food in their stomach, their tolerance, metabolism, mood, and a few others.

The rate at which you feel the effects after drinking your THC hot chocolate may not align with how long it takes to kick in for your friend you are sharing it with. Just like Delta-9 Brownies or other infused edibles, hot chocolate laced with THC works gradually as you gulp it down, and your body digests and metabolizes it.

The onset of the effects can vary. Usually, it takes around 30 minutes to 2 hours after consumption, with effects peaking around 2 hours and lasting up to 6 hours or even more!

Making THC Hot Chocolate at Home

Making THC Hot Chocolate at Home

So, what are we doing here today? Today, we are going to spill the beans! We are going to let the monkey out of the bottle for you! We will be sharing a few recipes so that you can make Delta-9 Hot Chocolate at home whenever you want! We will make a THC chocolatier out of you yet!

Let us begin with something simple at first. You just need decarboxylated cannabis flower and a few other ingredients.

Tools & Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 cup of milk (choose what you like)
  • 1 teaspoon of butter or another fat
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar (use any type of sweetener you prefer)
  • 1-2 grams of finely ground, decarboxylated cannabis flower
  • Fine mesh strainer or coffee filter
  • Saucepan
  • Flavor of your choice (optional: vanilla extract, cinnamon, peppermint, or something else)

Decarboxylate the Grass

Never underestimate the importance of decarboxylation, fam! High-school chemistry made you crazy, but you cannot overlook it this time! Actually, we believe you will love it because decarboxylation is the chemical magic that activates the cannabinoids in hemp flowers, ensuring all the psychoactive effects are infused into the chocolate. To decarb the flowers, bake them at 220-240oF (104-116oC) for half an hour.

Step 1: Combine the Ingredients

Take a saucepan and use it to combine the decarboxylated flower, sugar, water, milk, and butter. THC is a fat-soluble compound, which means it has to bind with fat to activate. Therefore, using the butter here ensures the cannabinoid becomes bioavailable.

Step 2: Simmer the Mixture

Simmer the concoction on medium heat for about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure everything blends properly.

Step 3: Pour and Filter

If you do not want twigs, seeds, or other debris in your hot chocolate, use a fine mesh strainer or coffee filter to strain out the plant material. Pour the mixture into your mug, add a flavor of your choice (optional), and get ready to fly with the kites as you drown in a chocolaty ocean!
